Message:Satyam garu! బాగుందండి. సరదాగా చదువుకున్నప్పటికీ, మరిన్ని కొత్త విషయాలు తెలిసాయి. ముఖ్యంగా స్పానిష్ లో జె ని పలురకాలుగా పలకటం బాగా నచ్చింది. మీరన్నది నిజమే, ఖండాంతరం వెళ్లినప్పుడు మరిన్ని భాషాపరమైన సరదా సంగతులు తెలుసుకోవచ్చు. పరిశోధనే అవసరం లేదు. పరిశీలన కూడా మనకు కొత్త ఉత్సాహాన్ని ఇస్తుంది.

మాతృ, పితృ, భాతృ పదాలు మనకు సంస్కృతంలో ఉన్నట్లే, లాటిన్ నుండి ఇంగ్లీష్ లోకి వచ్చాయని నేను విని ఉన్నాను. లాటిన్ లో కూడా వచ్చీపోయీ దగ్గరగా "మాతృ, పితృ, భాతృ" ఈ మూడు పదాలు ఒకేలా ఉన్నాయి. సంస్కృతం, గ్రీకు, లాటిన్ మూలభాషలు కదా! సారూప్యత ఉండుంటుంది కదా!

Tamil was not an Indic Language!

Its origin is Unknown. Some linguists say, it derived from TAMIZ an ancient language spoken by the Proto-Australoid races (some Dravidains).

Tami,has no Sanskrit base whereas, other Dravidian Languages do have a Sanskrit base.

Very nice article - my interests in the language are very similar to yours.

I observed in the US that English has a few twin-words (dwandwa padaalu):  Oki-doki (to say "okay"), manners schmanners (word starting with "sch..." is used with other words to demean the first word.

Other words like mother, father, brother etc. used in English that may have come from Sanskrit are the months: September - Saptha, October - ashta, November - nava, December - Dasa.  For some reason, they used 7, 8, 9, 10 for months 9, 10, 11 and 12.

Also, other such words are: Naarinja pandu in Telugu is called Narinja in Spanish - don't know how.  Also, Jesus is called "Yesu" in Telugu because J is silent in Spanish, so is "s" after "u".  Why Telugus used Spanish version of Jesus, instead of English version, I do not know.

In Tamil, drumstick (munaga kaaya) is called Moringa, while in Spanish too it is called moringa.

English "name" - did it come from Sanskrit - "naam"?

Read recently that even Adam and Eve came from "Aathma" and "Jeeva" (J silent).

Interesting, isn't it?
